Did you know that you can charge one electric car directly from another electric car? With V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and the right equipment, you can transfer power between two cars – quickly, easily and safely.
It is relevant in many situations:
- A friend or colleague has run out of power
- You want to share power at a parking lot or campsite
- You need emergency charging far from a charging station
- You want to help another electric car owner in an emergency situation
How it works
The principle is simple:
- Connect the V2L connector in the car that will supply power
- Connect the charger between the two cars
- Select charging power via the button on the charger – choose between 8A, 10A, 13A or 16A
- The charger automatically remembers your setting for next time
The car that supplies power must support The V2L standard. The car receiving power simply needs to be able to charge via Type 2.
Important restrictions per car brand
Not all cars can deliver the same amount of power via V2L. Here are the most important ones:
BYD (Dolphin, Seal, Seal U, Sealion 7)
- Max V2L output: 15A
- Recommended setting: 13A
- ⚠️ Do not set the charger to 16A – this may restart the car's V2L signal due to safety feature
Hyundai IONIQ 5 & Kia EV6
- Max V2L output: 16A
- Recommended setting: 16A

Always check your car's manual for the maximum V2L output power before selecting the amperage setting.
Your car doesn't have V2L from the factory? Use our external 5 kW V2L discharger
Not all electric cars have V2L functionality from the factory. This does not mean that you are excluded from car-to-car charging.
With our external 5 kW V2L discharger you can add V2L functionality to your electric car – regardless of make and model.
How it works
- The discharger is connected to the car's Type 2 charging connector
- It draws power from the car's battery via the charging port
- Delivers up to 5kW – more than the built-in V2L in most cars
- The output is a regular Schuko 16A 230V plug
Important: You need a normal 16A charger
Since the external discharger supplies power via a regular Schuko 16A 230V plug, you need a normal 16A mobile charger to connect the discharger to the car to be charged.
The setup looks like this:
- External 5 kW discharger connects to the delivering car's Type 2 charging socket
- The discharger delivers power via a Schuko 16A 230V plug
- One V2LPower CEE 230V 16A 3.7 kW charger connected to the discharger
- The charger Type 2 connector connected to the receiving car

Example
You have a Tesla Model 3 that doesn't have V2L from the factory. With the external discharger and a V2LPower 16A charger, you can still supply power to a friend's electric car that has run out of power - and with up to 5 kW, it's faster than most built-in V2L solutions.
How much power can you transfer?
It depends on the car brand and setting:
With built-in V2L (max. 16A):
- 8A: approx. 1.8 kW – approx. 1.8 kWh per hour
- 10A: approx. 2.3 kW – approx. 2.3 kWh per hour
- 13A: approx. 3.0 kW – approx. 3.0 kWh per hour
- 16A: approx. 3.7 kW – approx. 3.7 kWh per hour
With external 5 kW discharger:
- Up to 5.0 kW – approx. 5.0 kWh per hour
At 16A for one hour you can transfer approx. 3.7 kWh – enough for about 20-25 km range. With the external discharger you can transfer approx. 5 kWh per hour – enough for about 30-35 km range.
When does car-to-car make sense?
- Emergency: An electric car has run out of battery – you can give it enough power to reach the nearest charging station
- Camping and outdoor activities: Share power between cars at the campsite
- Workplaces: Help a colleague who forgot to charge
- Events and festivals: Power to each other without access to charging stations
- Roadside assistance: Help stranded motorist without waiting for a tow truck

Important before use
Always refer to your vehicle's manual to select the correct amperage. Incorrect setting may activate the vehicle's safety system and cut off the power supply.
Make sure that:
- The delivering car has sufficient battery capacity (min. 20% recommended)

FAQ
Can all electric cars charge another electric car? No, the car supplying power must support V2L – or have an external 5 kW discharger connected. The car receiving power simply needs to be able to charge via Type 2.
Can it damage the car battery? No, V2L is a function built in by the car manufacturer. The car itself controls how much power it delivers. The external discharger also has built-in safety.
How long does it take to charge? It depends on the setting. At 16A you can transfer approx. 3.7 kWh per hour. With the external 5 kW discharger up to 5 kWh per hour.
What if I set the amperage too high? The car's security system may interrupt the V2L signal. Always follow the recommendations for your car brand.
What if my car doesn't have V2L from the factory? Then you can use our external 5 kW V2L discharger. It connects to the car's Type 2 charging socket and supplies power via a standard Schuko 16A 230V socket. From here you connect a V2LPower 16A charger to the car that needs to be charged.
